Mineral Point, WI: This impressive brick Georgian Revival mansion was built in 1906 for discriminating owners who, coincidentally, rarely occupied the lovely home. The property was infrequently lived in for about six years by the owners and then, with a full time caretaker in attendance, left unoccupied until the 1950s. Carefully winterized and shuttered, the property was vacant until 1986!
The new owners had little refurbishing to do and left all the original details intact. They briefly operated it as a bed and breakfast until 1998. The current and third owners, captivated by the architectural integrity, original murals, fireplaces incredible woodwork and gorgeous light fixtures, bought it for their own pleasure and with the intention of operating a bed and breakfast. Sadly, health issues in their family necessitate moving back to Madison.
